Shivae.NET and all the Shivae Comics upgrade/fix. (6 Comments)

Hi everyone, Frumph here .. as you have all realized the Shivae.NET sites went down last sunday and Tiff’s Server dude and myself have been working frantically to get things working correctly.

There are some new features as well as new abilities of the new CMS that Tiff is now using including the new ComicPress 2.8

We’ll also be redesigning all the sites so stay tuned.  In the mean time i’m putting up a forum area for people to register on the site and you can give input to how things are and say you miss Tiff’s comics =)

Shivae Studios Status Pre-Fall 2009 Report (20 Comments)

My daughter’s off to school! HURRAY!! Off to Kindergarten for a second year (We held her back, she could have gone to first grade, but we decided when we were given the option to have her repeat Kindergarten. She’s a July child, so she was a little behind the older kids, so instead of being in the bottom of First, we thought it better to be in the top of Kindergarten. :D This year.. she’s also not the shortest kid in the class, she’s one of the taller one, which says a lot for how much she grew over the summer. She went from 3% to 18% in height for her age – 18% of 6 year olds are her height. ;) Now we have to work on her weight, which is -3% …. despite the fact she eats all day. Of course … she drinks nothing but water and prefers fruit, vegetables, yogurt and nuts to everything else.

Ok, on to the next part – I haven’t done anything here because I’ve been waiting to make sure it’s stable before making a lot of changes. This new system will allow you to register ONCE on Shivae.net and ONCE on Cyantian.net and post on all the comics. I will begin making more cosmetic changes and posts later – I will also be splitting off a separate ‘family’ blog with lots of pictures in the future. I will be cleaning out the posts without images and either deleting the posts, adding images or reposting them later after removing them.

Now, my plans for fall updating may not begin until October. I need to get more commissions out of the way (yes, I do have some that still need to be mailed that I am severely tardy on. :( ) The following is my tentative plan, to begin in October.

Shivae! Vas for the WIN! (1 Comment)

The polling is over and Vas has won. I’ve already pencilled the first two pages, but will not likely update it until I have four completed pages as a buffer. It will be updating once a week.

No Angel came in second and I will be working on scripting for it in the mean time… some stories are going to end soon, like Caiden and Koel. Cler is technically completed. I will probably post a questionaire on Shivae! to see if there’s anything the readers would like me to cover. Caiden and Koel, Cler and Vas are all going to be self contained stories and there will be others.

You’ll notice that I’m concentrating on getting all the sites DONE, this time, before moving on to the other layouts. Cyantian.net will get this treatment next, then Alien Dice.

Yes, you all were right. I was being over ambitious with my schedule. There’s just so much I want to do – soo… THIS is the official update list for the fall.

Abby’s Agency – TuTh – For another few weeks. It’s future is currently in limbo.
Akaelae – M-F (Yes, I hear you saying you like the M-F updates.)
Alien Dice – M-F
PURE – Tu (SOMETIMES Th)
Shivae! Vas – Wednesday – You chose this one. I’m giving it to you.
Black Rose – Wednesday – I’m doing it because I -WANT- to do it. I want to do it more than any other comic I am currently doing and I’m not going to deny myself the pleasure of enjoying a comic since it will make the others feel like a chore if I don’t.

I will be finishing up the current Legacy chapter as I have time. Genoworks Saga will begin updating when I get to the end of Akaelae and it goes on a lengthy break. Caiden and Koel is about halfway done and Vas is also moving to its close. There are two promised cameos for Vas that must take place before it ends, one for Flowerlark, one for Daemonschile.

The reason for the changes? Oh … just checking my finances and noting that January is just around the corner and January hurt this year – I’m quite afraid of it for 2010. So I’m going to concentrate on 1. The email that I’ve been unable to answer. I’m months behind in email … :/ 2. Merchandise – I have a ton of comics to prep for the itunes store as well as print. 3. Bills are starting to fall into the cracks and while I’m making headway again … I’m certain most of you know it’s going around. ;) 4. I want to go on a family Christmas vacation to Tennessee and well … it’s pretty much on me to get the gas money together. :D (We’ve been invited on vacation with family as in grandparents, brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews and such and Tennessee just seems like one of those ‘magical’ places to have a Christmas vacation. It’s nicer still that we just have to cover gas money for us to get there and probably a meal or two.) I want to make sure I have comics to cover the holidays this year. 5. I need to finish shifting around the comics to the new system. 6. I need to do things for other people I’ve been meaning to do but have not had time to do.

I like to keep busy … but I also realize that I’m making a LOT of mistakes and I’m not having time to do crafty things I want to do – and there are a LOT of those things I’d like to do. I’ve neglected the store because I don’t have time to mail things. I have a ton of commissions I need to finish as well. Some I’ve finished … just haven’t had time to mail.

So I’m just going to remove some things from my ‘plate’ so that they don’t linger over me week to week. I figured most of you are happy that I just update one story from each world. :)

Bookmark Scratch Pads!

This is a little project I worked on Friday morning – because I had a strong need to DO SOMETHING with my hands that was not drawing. These were originally to be magnetic bookmarks that I made for A-kon two years ago. They’re laminated and 2.25″ x 3″ in size.

Why I still have them?

There was a problem with 1. getting the glue to STICK To the lamination and 2. getting them to REMAIN BENT in half. The latter wasn’t really a big issue since they were to be used as bookmarks and stuck in a book, but I became a bit obsessed about making them bent because I thought it’d help the glue to stick to the magnets if they had less stress on them after they were glued. :D I stuck them under heavy boxes … where they remained for two years. I tried to fix them again this year and made additional ones that were laminated with magnetic backing. That failed as well.

SO on Friday, after seeing a nifty matchbook notepad tutorial online, it dawned on me, I bet I can staple a bunch of paper inside these bookmarks and repurpose them to simply being little bookmarks with some scratch paper inside for people to write notes on while reading! When the paper’s used, it can be removed since it’s held in place by a single staple (At the moment.. I might get ambitous and start popping holes in them and tying ribbons on them. ;) ) The paper inside is basic college ruled binder paper so some of them have holes on the sides or gaps of white space. I may start dividing them up by what’s inside and cast the ones with holes aside as freebies. There are 20 sheets/40 pages in each one.

And that’s what I did – to every single one of them, because I like doing a lot of stuff at once. I’m going to start tossing these into orders from the store and will likely have them for sale for 2 for $1.
Oh, the ones that show two images have a different back and front image.
